Daintree River Tours & Attractions | Cape Tribulation and Daintree Rainforest

The world heritage listed Cape Tribulation Daintree Rainforest expands over 1200 square kilometres and is the largest area of continuous tropical rainforest in Australia and is believed to be around 135 million years old — it is also considered to be one of the most ancient and primitive rainforests in the world. The Daintree rainforest is home to a unique range of wildlife species! It's a must see for anyone travelling to Cairns and Tropical North Queensland.

The Daintree River winds its way through the rainforest just south of the Cape Tribulation region. There is no bridge that crosses the river and no walking tracks around the wild river banks so the only way to enjoy the abundant wildlife that inhabit the river is by joining an informative river cruise tour. Some of the geography that can be seen whilst enjoying a cruise on the Daintree River includes; Thornton Peak, Alexandria Range, Black Mountain and the Cape Tribulation Rainforest. Some of the creatures that live in the river and on its banks include Saltwater or Estuarine Crocodiles, Turtles, Barramundi, and hundreds of bird's species and other marine life.

Some plant species only found in the Daintree Rainforest, have been recorded as some of the rarest and most primitive flowering plants known and scientists believe a vital link for the search into the origins of flowering plants. The Daintree Rainforest is home to an amazing variety of plants and animals including 122 rare, threatened and endangered species. Many of these are 'endemic' to the region meaning that they are found nowhere else in the world.

Cape Tribulations endangered animal species include the Musky-rat Kangaroo, Spotted-tail Quoll, the Southern Cassowary and the Bennett's Tree Kangaroo and the Lumholtz's Tree Kangaroo. The Daintree is also home to 30% of Australia's marsupial species 20% of Australia's reptile species 29% of Australia's frog species 58% of Australia's Bat and Butterfly species and literally hundreds of bird species.

If you would like to take part in preserving the rainforests for future generations and need more information on how you can help to protect and preserve this region and its inhabitants please donate to Rainforest Rescue - See more at: Rainforest Rescue
